Dr. Mohammed El-Gendy is a tenure track Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering. Prior to joining Lakehead University, he was a Bridge Engineer at Tetra Tech (Winnipeg, MB) between 2019 and 2023. Dr. El-Gendy received his B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from Assiut University, Egypt in 2009 and his MSc and PhD degrees in Structural Engineering from the University of Manitoba in 2015 and 2020, respectively.
Dr. El-Gendy’s research interests revolve around exploring and implementing innovative materials and technologies and assessing their performance in various structural elements to achieve resilient and sustainable infrastructure.
Dr. El-Gendy is a Voting Member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) sub-committee 440-H (FRP Reinforced-Concrete) and an International Editorial Board Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Journal of Composite for Construction (JCC). He is a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Manitoba. He is also an active member of several professional societies and organizations including ACI, ASCE, CSCE, IIFC and CPCI.
Dr. El-Gendy was the recipient of multiple awards and recognitions, including the 2020 ACI Mete A. Sozen Award for Excellence in Structural Research and the 2022 ASCE JCC Outstanding Reviewer Award.
