Software Engineering
Overview
Software plays a fundamental role in every aspect of our lives, across a range of industries including banking, medical devices, clean energy – as well as our smartphones and computers.
Software engineering is a systematic approach to developing software including design, development, coding, integration, and testing. It involves applying engineering principles and techniques to the process of software development, with the goal of creating high-quality, reliable, and efficient software that meets the needs of users and organizations.
In this program you will learn to apply engineering methodologies and professional practices to the analysis, design, implementation, verification, and deployment of computer software. You will also be able to apply modern computational intelligence principles, such as deep learning to build human-centered real-time intelligent systems solving practical problems.

Student Q & A
Why did you decide to study engineering?
I enjoyed problem solving and I found myself to be good with the basics like math and science.
What made you choose your program?
At a young age I was able to notice how the world in general was advancing and leaning towards an Internet of Things (IOT) era.
Why did you choose Lakehead?
I chose Lakehead because the comments and statements of alumni and the percentage of employed LU graduates encouraged me to do so, especially since I was coming in as an international student. The entry level scholarship I was given was an added bonus.
What advice would you give to someone considering studying engineering?
Go to class, take notes, do the assignments, build rapport with your professors and class mates, manage your time well and lastly try to have fun as well – there’s more to uni than just academics.
What do you like doing when you’re not studying?
Reading manga and playing football (soccer).
Who inspires you most and why?
Jay-Z. I find it amazing how he found what he was good at, turned it into major success and expanded that success into other things establishing a legacy that will live on well after him.
