How to Apply
The following steps take you through submitting an application for our undergraduate programs.
If you are interested in graduate programs (Master’s or PhD), please go to the Faculty of Graduate Studies website that includes all the information you need to apply including admissions requirements.
STEP 1: Choose Your Program
Choose your program by reviewing our Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) options including admissions requirements:
- Chemical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mechatronics Engineering
- Software Engineering
STEP 2: Choose Your Pathway
High School Pathways
If you are applying from High School with admissions requirements you begin in Year 1 of our Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) programs.
If you do not meet all the admissions requirements, we offer our 1-year Pre-Eng program (Common Year in Applied Science) to prepare you for your BEng.
College Transfer Pathway
If you are have your Engineering Technology Diploma you can enter in Year 3 of our Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) programs after taking our Summer Transition Program.
STEP 3: Choose Additional Options
Add to your Experience with Co-op and MBA options
We offer you the opportunity to apply directly into a BEng with Co-op or BEng with MBA program. You can select this option after you enroll with us or at any time during your studies.
STEP 4: Submit Your Application
You can apply online through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC).
If you are entering from an Ontario High School, please use the 101 OUAC application.
All other applicants – including College Transfer and International applicants – should complete the 105 OUAC application.
STEP 5: Send Supporting Documents
For College Transfer applicants only, once you have applied, please send official transcripts from all the post-secondary institutions you have attended directly to our Student Central – Undergraduate Admissions (Lakehead University, 955 Oliver Road, Thunder Bay, ON P7B 5E1). High School transcripts are not required for College Transfer applicants.
If you are currently enrolled in the final year of your college technology program, please send updated transcripts showing your fall term (second-last term) marks and winter term (final term) course registration as soon as possible.
STEP 6: Track Your Application
After submitting your application, you can track its status through the OUAC or Lakehead University website. You will receive an admission decision once your application has been reviewed.
STEP 7: Accept Your Offer
If you receive an offer of admission, you will need to accept it by the deadline specified in your offer letter.

Math Bootcamp
Every new Lakehead Engineering student is encouraged to participate in a free, online Math Bootcamp before beginning their studies.

We visit colleges across Canada every year to present our programs to Engineering Technology Diploma students. Please review the schedule that is updated regularly with the dates of our visits.
