Co-op

Every degree at Lakehead Engineering offers co-op between year three and year four. If you’re a college transfer student it’s between year one and year two of your studies.

Co-op gives you the chance to start your career before you graduate and to earn while you learn. The co-op program offers students a wide range of work placements, from small start-ups to large multinational corporations. You can work for top employers near our campuses in Thunder Bay and Barrie, and all over North America. We also partner with NGOs, non-profits and public sector organisations to offer you a wide range of different placements.

The placements are typically 4, 12 or 16 months giving you the opportunity for meaningful work experience that’s also part of your degree.

The program also provides support for students to find co-op work placements and offers assistance with resume writing, interview preparation, and job search strategies.

You will be supervised and mentored by employers, and they will evaluate your performance. This will offer you an insight into the expectations of employers and to develop the workplace skills you’ll need to achieve your career ambitions.

Participation in the co-op program is highly valued by employers, as it provides students with the opportunity to develop their technical skills, gain valuable work experience, and build their professional network. The experience gained from these co-op placements can also be used towards professional engineering licences and designations.
