T. Akilan received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He is currently an Assistant Professor with the Department of Software Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, ON, Canada. His research interests include object/action recognition, image/video processing and segmentation, and data fusion using statistical techniques, and natural language processing using Machine/Deep Learning algorithms, particularly Graph Neural Networks and Convolutional Neural Networks. He is a recipient of the 2015-2016 Golden Key’s premier Graduate Scholar Award and 2013-2014 His Majesty the King’s Scholarship of the Royal Thai Government.
He serves as the Director of Outreach of Young Professionals, IEEE Winnipeg Section, Canada, Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems (TCSVT) and Journal of Neurocomputing, and a reviewer for several journals including IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, and IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics.
