New professors join the Faculty of Engineering
The Faculty of Engineering has announced the arrival of two new faculty members.
Dr. Mohammed El-Gendy joins as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering. Prior to his appointment, Dr. El Gendy worked in the private sector as a Bridge Engineer at Tetra Tech in Winnipeg.
Dr. El-Gendy received MSc and PhD degrees in Structural Engineering from the University of Manitoba, and his B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from Assiut University in Egypt.
His research interests revolve around exploring and implementing innovative materials and technologies and assessing their performance in various structural elements to achieve resilient and sustainable infrastructure.
In the Department of Software Engineering, Dr. Yong Deng joins as an Assistant Professor. Previously, Dr. Deng was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Deng gained his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Ontario Tech University. He obtained a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Zhejiang Gongshang University, and a Bachelor’s degree from Wuhan University of Technology.
His research focuses on optimization, coded caching and distributed computing, wireless networks, algorithmic mechanism design and network security.
Janusz Kozinski, Dean of Engineering, welcomed the new additions to the Faculty,
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. El-Gendy and Dr. Deng to our community. They are outstanding professors in the early stage of their careers, and we are lucky to have them as part of our Faculty. I know they will make significant contributions to teaching and research in their respective departments in the years ahead,” he said.
