Lakehead Engineering Technologist wins Innovation Award
Dan Vasiliu, P.Eng., technical staff member in the Department of Electrical Engineering, is the winner of Lakehead’s 2023 Teaching Innovation Award.
The award, given by Lakehead’s Office of Innovation, Partnerships & Economic Development, recognizes the work he undertook to develop a workflow, then source, configure the necessary hardware and software, and design and 3D print parts as needed, to allow the Electronic Communications lab to be remotely operated by the students, in real time, during the pandemic. This meant students were able to team up and work directly with the lab instrumentation as if they were in the lab.
He successfully turned his ‘moonshot’ idea into a functional, reliable, and effective teaching product, the only remotely controllable lab at Lakehead, in a very short time at the beginning of the pandemic, and used it throughout the lock-down years to deliver live, interactive labs to our EE students.
He will receive the Lakehead University Innovation Award at the Awards Ceremony during Research & Innovation Week, taking place on Thursday, March 2.
