Lakehead Engineers take part in 62nd Annual Engineering and Technology Conference
Members of the Faculty of Engineering at Lakehead University took part in the 62nd Annual Engineering and Technology Conference organized by the PEO Lakehead Chapter in Thunder Bay last month.
Led by the Dean of Engineering, Dr. Janusz Kozinski, the Faculty of Engineering participated in a number of presentations, and attendees from Lakehead University included undergraduates, graduate students and professors. It was opportunity for the Faculty of Engineering to engage with local engineers and to contribute to many different topics that were discussed.
With so many professional engineers in the Northwest Region having studied at Lakehead University it was also a fantastic occasion for current students and professors to get together with local alumni, particularly as this year marks the 50thanniversary of the Faculty of Engineering.
As a keynote speaker, Dr. Janusz Kozinski, P.Eng., delivered a presentation titled, “The New Wave Engineering: Linking megatrends with future skills”, setting out a bold vision for the future of the profession and engineering education.
In addition, Dr. Sam Salem, P.Eng., professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Director of the LU Fire Testing & Research Laboratory, presented to the audience of engineering professionals on the topic, “Mass Timber: A Game Changer for Construction and Sustainable Solution for the Housing Crisis in Canada”.
The event also featured presentations from Michelle Murphy, P.Eng., Civil Department Lead at WSP Canada, and Lakehead University alumnus, George McKay, P.Eng., President and Senior Project Engineer at JML Engineering Ltd.
“It was a privilege to be invited to speak with such an energetic and thoughtful group of professional engineers from across Northwest Ontario. It was very special to see so many Lakehead University students, past and present, at the event,” said Dr. Janusz Kozinski.
“We are committed to engaging with local companies and industries to help train the next generation of engineering talent, and to collaborate on innovative new research projects that will build the future of our region.”
